Our Clinic - Changing Lives - Changing Futures
Bringing Health
Clinica Montana de Esperanza
How Mountain of Hope Began
In the early 1990’s, members of St. Peter’s in Lake Mary had come to Honduras to help build a church. A woman approached one of the missionaries and said: “our children are sick; they’re dying. They need doctors and medicine”.
That simple statement changed a heart, a mission, and an entire village.
With the help of many, Mountain of Hope Inc. was created, and enough money was raised to return to build a clinic in 2001. The clinic was named Clinica Montaña de Esperanza. The clinic operates 3 days a week, with a doctor, a dentist, and limited support staff. If able, villagers pay about $6 US to be treated and receive prescribed medications.
Funds for salaries, supplies and overhead must be continually raised through contributions. The good news is, in Honduras, this operational healthcare facility operates for a fraction of what it would cost in the United States. For as little as $25/month a family would get to see a doctor and recieve necessary medication
Here’s the challenge: Currently, the total budget for the clinic comes from a handful of people, allowing the clinic to operate 3 days per week. Our goal is to get back to 5 days a week.

Julissa is one of the many success stories of Mountain of Hope. She was born with bladder extrophy, a condition that results with the bladder being outside of the body. When we found out about Julissa, she was 9 years old. Her parents had tirelessly cared for her preventing any infections that could have been fatal. We brought Julissa over to the US and an Orlando-baased urologist completed the corrective life saving surgery to fix her congenital defect. Today, She is married is currently in school seeking her marketing degree. Julissa and her husband are among our many volunteers that help during our mission weeks.
